The grilled cheese sandwich is Recipe Card 08 in Creature Kitchen, the cozy horror cooking simulator developed by The Rat Zone. To unlock it, you must submerge the kitchen sink until the recipe card floats to the surface. Crafting the sandwich requires two bread slices and one cheese slice, both baked inside the oven.

How to Find the Grilled Cheese Recipe Card
Unlike starter dishes such as toast, pancakes, and French fries, the grilled cheese recipe must be discovered manually inside the cabin kitchen:
- Approach the main kitchen sink to the right of the central prep counters.
- Turn on both the hot and cold water taps.
- Wait several seconds for the sink basin to completely fill with water.
- Once full, Recipe Card 08 will appear floating on top of the water. Interact with the card to add it to your recipe collection.
Prerequisite: Unlocking the Cheese Cabinet
You cannot prepare grilled cheese until you gain access to raw cheese wedges. At the start of the game, the cabinet containing cheese is locked.
To unlock it, you must first progress through the porch requests:
- Feed Corrin: Photograph the crow on the porch railing near the windchimes, then feed her any two meals. Corrin will reward you with the fish-head key that unlocks the refrigerator.
- Photograph Trash Cat: Head underneath the porch to photograph the raccoon known as Trash Cat. The photo album notes that Trash Cat requires any two sandwiches.
- Feed Trash Cat: Prepare two sandwiches (such as an egg sandwich made from two bread slices and a fried egg, or a PB&J sandwich made with bread, peanut butter, and homemade jam). Drop them on the porch floor for Trash Cat.
- Claim the Square-Head Key: Once satisfied, Trash Cat brings you a square-head key. Use this key to unlock the cheese cabinet located directly next to the refrigerator.
Ingredients and Preparation Steps
Once the cheese cabinet is open, you can gather the raw ingredients from your kitchen storage:
- Bread: Found in the upper kitchen cabinets to the left of the sink (and restocked automatically via the pantry). Place a loaf of bread on the cutting board and use the kitchen knife to slice it. You need two bread slices.
- Cheese: Grab a cheese wedge from the unlocked cheese cabinet. Place it on the cutting board and chop it with the knife to produce a cheese slice. You need one cheese slice.
To cook the sandwich:
- Pick up the two bread slices and the single cheese slice.
- Drop all three items directly into the oven.
- Shut the oven door.
- Wait for the cooking timer and chime to sound.
- Open the oven door to collect your finished, bagged grilled cheese sandwich. If you combine incorrect ingredients or place uncut loaves into the oven, the game will yield a "Mistake" or "Slop" instead.
Which Creatures Eat Grilled Cheese?
Grilled cheese satisfies specific meal requirements for multiple woodland visitors:
- Them (The Mice): Found inside the hole in the kitchen wall (individual mice include Goob, Pird, Ashe, and Conn). Photographing them reveals their demand for three dishes made with cheese. Grilled cheese fulfills one of these three requirements alongside dishes like pizza or cheese and crackers. Feeding Them awards the heart key to the bedroom.
- Moth (Mothman): Located in the Oddities Room (unlocked with the crescent moon key). Moth requests four vegetarian dishes. As confirmed by community testing, meat-free dinner items such as grilled cheese, mushroom soup, and bean burritos qualify as vegetarian meals for him.
- Corrin (The Crow): While Corrin accepts any two meals, players rarely serve her grilled cheese because the cheese cabinet is normally unlocked after her questline is finished.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fry the grilled cheese in the frying pan?
No. In Creature Kitchen, all assembled sandwich recipes must be placed inside the oven to cook. The frying pan is reserved for individual frying steps, such as frying eggs, bacon, fish, or chicken.
Why did my oven produce a Mistake instead of grilled cheese?
A "Mistake" occurs if you forget to slice the ingredients beforehand, place an uncut cheese wedge or whole loaf of bread into the oven, or accidentally add a third unrelated ingredient. Ensure the oven contains exactly two bread slices and one cheese slice before closing the door.
Does grilled cheese satisfy Mothman's diet?
Yes. Despite initial player confusion regarding vegan versus vegetarian labeling in the Oddities Room, Mothman accepts dairy-based savory meals. Grilled cheese counts toward his requirement of four vegetarian dishes.
